Toni Gattone: Adaptive Gardening: How to make our Gardens Grow…As We Grow Older

I’ve always been passionate about gardening, and for over the decades, I’ve explored various avenues and possibilities where I might share my love of gardening in a way that could be of value and service to others.

Shortly after becoming a Master Gardener, I began to suffer from chronic back pain that kept me from working with gusto in my garden. Being an eternal optimist, I looked for ways I could “adapt” so I could keep doing what I love to do. That’s when I discovered “adaptive gardening” and I realized I was not alone. I began speaking as a way of sharing solutions with our community.

After presenting at a national event, I was approached by an editor from Timber Press, who wanted to know if I was interested in turning my one-hour seminar into a thirty-thousand-word book. Published in 2019, The Lifelong Gardener, Garden with Ease and Joy at Any Age was born.

Even if you are not a gardener, I’ll share with you how I use the garden as a metaphor, so you can adapt to your body’s physical challenges, so you can have ease, wellness, and joy in your life.
