Leslie Lautenslager launched her protocol career in 1986 under U.S. Chief of Protocol Selwa “Lucky” Roosevelt, starting at Blair House, the President’s Guest House. Her duties expanded in the State Department, leading international delegations for President Reagan and organizing state visits. After her State Department tenure, Leslie served as the Director of Protocol for the Battle of Normandy Foundation, notably during the 50th D-Day anniversary.
In 1996, she joined the Washington Speakers Bureau, managing events for General Colin Powell and continuing as his executive assistant when he became U.S. Secretary of State. She orchestrated high-profile ceremonies for foreign dignitaries and national commemorations until his passing in 2021.
From 2016-2020, Leslie presided over the Protocol Officers Association, significantly boosting membership and leading educational forums. Her memoir, "My Time with General Colin Powell: Stories of Kindness, Diplomacy & Protocol," offers a poignant look at her journey alongside a distinguished leader, sharing insights and anecdotes that highlight their shared experiences and Powell's profound impact on diplomacy and protocol. Leslie is a sought-after speaker and a College of William & Mary graduate, holding degrees in Psychology and Fine Arts.
