Commander Yemm joined the Royal Navy in 1994 as a warfare officer. Her early career was largely spent as a navigating officer and she specialised as a Hydrographic survey officer and meteorologist serving in ships all around the world, from the Antarctic to New Zealand and from the Mediterranean to the coastal waters of the United Kingdom.
She was the first female in the Royal Navy to command an operational warship, conducting counter-terrorism patrols along the coast of Northern Ireland. She later served on frigates as destroyers in the Gulf at the end of the second Gulf War and conducting counter-piracy off the coast of Somalia.
She has taught UK and international senior military leaders at the UK Defence Academy and run the Royal Navy’s warfare training school. More recently she has worked in multinational battle staffs, planning and conducting operations around the world and currently serves in NATO’s High Readiness Headquarters, the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps.
Married to Matthew, with two children, she is a keen sportswoman both as a player and a coach.
